Announcements Song

Don’t say the word “announcements” or this song is bound to strike up!

Announcements.jpg

Announcements, announcements, announcements!
What a terrible way to die,
A terrible way to die,
A terrible way to be talked to death.
A terrible way to die.

Announcements, announcements, announcements!
(London Bridge)
Make the announcements short and sweet,
Short and sweet,
Short and sweet.
Make the announcemnts short and sweet,
They're so BORING!

Announcements, announcements, announcements!
(Ever Seen a Windmill)
Have you ever seen a windbag,
A windbag, a windbag?
Have you ever seen a windbag?
Well, there's one right now.
Swings this way and that way,
And this way and that way,
Have you ever seen a windbag?
Well there's one RIGHT NOW!

Announcements, announcements, announcements!
(Freres Jaques)
Words of wisdom,
Words of wisdom.
Here they come,
Here they come.
Boring words of wisdom,
Boring words of wisdom.
Dum, dum, dum,
Dum, dum, dum.

Announcements, announcements, announcements!
(What Do You Do With A Drunken Sailor)
What do you do with a loud Cubmaster?
What do you do with a loud Cubmaster?
What do you do with a loud Cubmaster,
Early in the evening?
Hit him in the face with a chocolate cream pie!
Hit him in the face with a chocolate cream pie!
Hit him in the face with a chocolate cream pie,
Early in the evening!

Announcements, announcements, announcements!
Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream
Throw the announcements overboard and listen to them scream.
Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream.
Ha Ha! Fooled you,
I'm a submarine.

(There are so many verses created by many different troops… What’s your version?)

Holiday Thoughts

Holiday song to sing to the tune: She’ll be Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain

Happy+Holidays.jpg

Tune: She’ll be Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain

We will decorate the house on holidays.
We will decorate the house on holidays.
We will write down all our wishes,
And set out the special dishes.
We will decorate the house on holidays.

We’ll prepare a special feast on holidays.
We’ll prepare a special feast on holidays.
We will make the cakes and pies,
That smell good and tempt our eyes.
We’ll prepare a special feast on holidays.

We’ll give thanks for love and peace on holidays.
We’ll give thanks for love and peace on holidays.
We’ll share presents with our friends,
And hope the spirit never ends.
We’ll give thanks for love and peace on holidays.

Scout Vespers

One of my absolute favorite songs to sing at the end of a meeting or campfire. Have I done and have I dared… everything to be prepared.

Sing to the tune: “Oh Christmas Tree”

Softly falls the light of day,
While our campfire fades away.
Silently each Scout should ask
Have I done my daily task?
Have I kept my honor bright?
Can I guiltless sleep tonight?
Have I done and have I dared
Everything to be prepared?

Listen Lord, oh listen Lord,
As I whisper soft and low.
Bless my mom and Bless my dad,
These are things that they should know.
I will keep my honor Bright,
The oath and law will be my guide.
And mom and dad this you should know,
Deep in my heart I love you so.

On My Honor

Reflection song to sing towards the end of your campfire program.

On my honor, I’ll do my best…

On My Honor.jpg

On my honor, I'll do my best, to do my duty to God.

On my honor, I'll do my best, to serve my country as I may.

On my honor, I'll do my best, to do my good turn each day,

To keep my body strengthened and keep my mind awakened.

To follow paths of righteousness.

On my honor, I'll do my best.

Little Black Things

Little black things, little black things
Crawling up and down my arms…

Little Black Thing.jpg

Tune: Clementine

Chorus

Little black things, little black things
Crawling up and down my arms.
If I wait ‘till they have babies,
I could start a black thing farm.

Haven’t had a bath in two years,
And I never wash my clothes.
Now I have these little black things,
Where they come from, heaven knows.

Chorus

Once a cute girl tried to kiss me,
But she screamed and gave a yell,
And left before I could ask her,
Was it black things or the smell?

Chorus

Chicken Lips and Lizard Hips

Find out what the recipe is for Mama’s soup! Sing to the tune of Supercalifragilisticexialidocious

ChickenLips.jpg

Tune: Supercalifragilisticexialidocious

Oh, when I was a little kid I never liked to eat,
Mama’d put things on my plate,
I’d dump them on her feet.
But then one day she made this soup, I ate it all in bed.
I asked her what was in it, and this is what she said.

Chorus
Ohhhh, chicken lips and lizard hips, and alligator eyes,
Monkey legs, Buzzard eggs, and Salamander thighs,
Rabbit ears and Camel rears, and tasty toenail pies.
Stir them all together, and it's mama’s soup surprise.

I went into the bathroom and I stood beside the sink,
I said I'm feeling slightly I'll, I think I’d like a drink.
Mama said “I’ve just the thing, I’ll get it in a wink,
It's full of lots of protein, and vitamins I think!”

Chorus

School's doing it, so why not :P © Disney

Bill Grogan's Goat

Bill Gorgan’s Goat is a repeat after me song that is great to sing in the beginning of your campfire program.

MC: It’s time to sing a song!

Audience: A song! A song! It’s time to sing a song!

MC: There’s only two ways to sing a song, Standing up or on your feet, so… Stand Up!

Audience: Stand Up! We love to stand up!

MC: This is a repeat after me song! …

Goat with Tounge out.jpg

Bill Grogan’s Goat

Bill Grogan's goat,
was feeling fine.
Ate three red shirts,
right off the line.

Bill took a stick,
gave him three whacks,
And tied him to,
the railroad tracks.

The whistle blew,
the train grew nigh;
Bill Grogan's goat,
was doomed to die.

He gave three moans,
of mortal pain,
Barfed up those shirts,
and flagged that train.

The Engineer,
got out to see,
What in the world,
this thing could be.

And when he saw,
It was a goat,
Pulled out his knife,
and cut it's throat.

Now Billy Goat
is really dead,
He went to heaven,
without a head.

And when he got there,
St. Peter said,
'Dear Billy Goat,
where is your head?'

I do not know,
I can not tell,
For all I know,
It just may be ...

Way down yonder in the paw paw patch.

(You may immediately begin singing the Paw Paw Patch.)

A song! A Song! It's time to sing a song!

This is a fun repeat after me song that you can do with either your Cub Scouts or Boy Scouts.  If wanted, you can even make it into a do as I do song.  There are multiple renditions of this song online, but here is ours:

There was a great big moose
And he drank a lot of juice
There was a great big moose
And he drank a lot of juice

(Chorus, clap to beat)
Singing oh-way-oh
Way-oh-way-oh-way-oh
Waaay-oh-way-oh
Way-oh-way-oh-way-oh

The moose's name was Fred
And he drank his juice in bed
The moose's name was Fred
And he drank his juice in bed

(Chorus)

He drank his juice with care
But he spilled it in his hair
He drank his juice with care
But he spilled it in his hair

(Chorus)

The moose's hair went stiff
So he combed it in a quiff
The moose's hair went stiff
So he combed it in a quiff

(Chorus)

(Don't repeat) His friends began to laugh
(Everyone) HA HA HA HA
So he went to take a bath
(Don't repeat) His friends began to laugh
(Everyone) HA HA HA HA
So he went to take a bath

(Chorus)

As the water went down
Fred the Moose began to drown
As the water went down
Fred the Moose began to drown

America (My Country Tis of Thee)

"My Country, 'Tis of Thee", also known as "America", is an American patriotic song, whose lyrics were written by Samuel Francis Smith. The melody used is the same as that of the national anthem of the United Kingdom, "God Save the Queen", arranged by Thomas Arne.

My country, 'tis of Thee,
Sweet Land of Liberty
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From every mountain side
Let Freedom ring.
My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love;
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills,
My heart with rapture thrills
Like that above.
Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees
Sweet Freedom's song;
Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.
Our fathers' God to Thee,
Author of Liberty,
To thee we sing,
Long may our land be bright
With Freedom's holy light,
Protect us by thy might
Great God, our King.
Our glorious Land to-day,
'Neath Education's sway,
Soars upward still.
Its hills of learning fair,
Whose bounties all may share,
Behold them everywhere
On vale and hill!

Fun song that is sung as a round and gets fast and faster each time. Just make sure to stop singing before your head explodes! Sung to the tune of "The Irish Washerwoman".

McTavish is dead,
and his brother don't know it,

and McTavish don't know it,
They both lie dead in the very same bed,
and neither one knows that the other is dead.

The Quartermasters Store

Classic camp song that the scouts will usually take and turn into a loud stomping song. What’s in the Quartermaster’s Store!?

Classic camp song that the scouts will usually take and turn into a loud stomping song.

Burl Ives' rendition is a little more mellow than how it's sung up at camp.

Lyrics

There are snakes, snakes, snakes
Big as garden rakes,
At the store! At the store!
There are snakes, snakes, snakes,
Big as garden rakes, at the Quartermaster's store.

Chorus
My eyes are dim I can-not see.
I have not got my specs with me.
I have HEY! Not HO! got my specs with me.

There are mice, mice, mice
Running though the rice,
At the store! At the store!
There are mice, mice, mice,
Running through the rice, at the Quartermaster's store.

Chorus
Continue with each of the following:
3. lice - living on the mice.
4. rats - big as alley cats.
5. roaches - big as football coaches
6. watches - big as sasquaches
7. snakes - big as garden rakes
8. bears - but no one really cares
9. beavers    - with little meat cleavers
10. foxes    - stuffed in little boxes

The Other Day, I Met A Bear

The leader begins by "singing" one line of each verse and the group repeats it in the same sing-song fashion. Then everybody sings each whole verse once together.

WavingBear.jpg

The leader begins by "singing" one line of each verse and the group repeats it in the same sing-song fashion. Then everybody sings each whole verse once together.

The other day
I met a bear
Out in the woods
Oh way out there

He looked at me
I looked at him
He sized up me
I sized up him

He said to me
Why don't you run
I see you ain't
Got any gun

I said to him
That's a good idea
So come on feet
Away from here

And so I ran
Away from there
But right behind
Me was that bear

And then I see
Ahead of me
A great big tree
Oh, glory be!

The lowest branch
Was ten feet up
I'd have to jump
And trust my luck!

And so I jumped
Into the air
But I missed that branch
A way up there

Now don't you fret
Now don't you frown
'Cause I caught that branch
On the way back down

This is the end
There ain't no more
Until I meet
That bear once more

Tune: Frere Jacques

Sing as a round. Or for something different, sing through once together. Then divide the group in half. Let once half sing the first verse while the other half sings the second verse simultaneously.

See the forest, see the forest
Trees so tall, trees so tall.
Tow'ring overhead,
Tow'ring overhead.
I seem small. I seem small.

See the river, see the river
Rushing on, rushing on.
Rumbling and a-tumbling,
Rumbling and a-tumbling.
Here, then gone. Here, then gone.

Throw It Out The Window

Back in 1997 at Island Park Scout Camp I was introduced to one of my favorite camp songs, Throw it Out the Window.

IMG_6762.jpg

Back in 1997 at Island Park Scout Camp I was introduced to one of my favorite camp songs, Throw it Out the Window. Not necessarily an action involved song, but for some reason your arms just start swinging in the motions of throwing something out of the window as you continue to sing each verse.  Each verse involves throwing a nursery rhyme out the window.  My favorite has always been Jack and Jill.

CowJumpedOverTheMoon.jpg

Throw It Out The Window

Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard

to get her poor dog a bone.

When she got there the the cupboard was bare,

so, She threw it out the window!

The window, the window,

The second story window.

With a heave and a ho and a mighty throw,

She threw it out the window!

Nursery Rhymes:

  • Jack and Jill
  • Humpty Dumpty
  • Mary Mary
  • Little Miss Muffet
  • Old Lady Lived in Shoe
  • Jack Sprat
  • Little Boy Blue
  • Hey Diddle Diddle
  • Old King Cole
  • Little Bo Peep
  • Peter Pumpkin Eater

Green Grow the Rushes O

Very up-beat and fun song for your scouts to sing.  THREE, THREE, THE RIVALS!...

One of my favorites from when I was a staff member at Island Park Scout Camp in Idaho.  Green Grow the Rushes O is a song with twelve verses that will have your scouts clapping and stomping by the end of it.

greengrow.gif

Here are the lyrics

I'll sing you one, O
Green grow the rushes, O
What is your one, O?
One is one and all alone
And evermore shall be so.

I'll sing you (the next number), O...

I'll sing you twelve, O
Green grow the rushes, O
What are your twelve, O?
Twelve for the twelve Apostles
Eleven for the eleven who went to heaven,
Ten for the ten commandments,
Nine for the nine bright shiners,
Eight for the April Rainers,
Seven for the seven stars in the sky,
Six for the six proud walkers,
Five for the symbols at your door,
Four for the Gospel makers,
THREE!, THREE!, THE RIVALS!,
Two, two, the lily-white boys,
Clothed all in green, O
One is one and all alone
And evermore shall be so.

The Germ Song

The flu has hit North America hard this year. One of the best preventions is that of washing your hands.

Hand.jpg

The flu has hit North America hard this year. One of the best preventions is that of washing your hands. There are a few songs out there that you can sing while your washing your hands to ensure that you have washed them long enough to eliminate as much germs as possible.  The health department will usually suggest that you wash your hands for as long as it takes to sing the tune "Happy Birthday" or as long as it takes for you to sing your ABC's.  Another song is the "Germ Song" for Cub Scouts.  This song has the same tune as Happy Birthday.

  • No dirty paws for me,
  • No dirty paws for me,
  • A Wolf Scout is clean …
  • No dirty paws for me.
  • Clean paws keep me strong,
  • Clean paws keep me strong,
  • A Wolf Scout is smart …
  • Clean paws keep me strong!

Here is another fun song to play for your Cub Scouts to help them with washing their hands.
