This trail is usually very crowded between June and September. With the recent pandemic, we only encountered 15 other people during our last visit. The trail is a 1.5 loop that goes around the whole lake. Early mornings usually bring some type of wildlife sighting. Under normal conditions, the wildlife will stay away during the day as there are a large amount of people that will visit this area. Dogs are allowed on this trail but must be kept on a leash. Don’t be surprised if you experience snow in June. We stopped and made a few snow angels along the hike.

This trail is kid friendly, easy, and has amazing views. There is no potable water or flushing toilets. There are vault toilets at this location. Camping is only allowed at the Mirror Lake Campground. Bring you Kayak or Canoe to skim across the glassy water of Mirror Lake.

If fishing is your thing, this is a great place to do it. Mostly fly fisherman along the path with a few anglers. My experience with the lakes up in the High Uintas is that the fish tend to go for a “little jake lure”. Other suggested lures: Panther Martins and small Rapalas. Flies that work: Mosquito, Adams, Renegade and Elk Hair Caddis. The lake is stocked with Rainbow, Golden, Cutthroat, and Brook Trout.

If an option, visit during the week days rather than on the weekend. Friday through Sunday are considered high traffic days. Wednesday was perfect… felt like we had the lake too ourselves. In the warmer July and August days, make sure to pack some bug spray. The weather in the Uintas can change in a flash, dress appropriately and be prepared for anything.

The road is not maintained in the winter.
