Using Morse Code

While hiking, how would you communicate with someone on the other side of the valley?... You could use your cell phone... but what if you had no signal or you battery was dead? True, you could use radios... but your batteries are dead in those also... you could use Morse Code!

Morse code is a combination of dots and dashes to create words and sentences. It was invented by Samuel Morse in 1835 for use in telegraphing by electricity.  It can be sent with a single flag, by light (flashlight or mirror), sound (bugle or whistle), or ham radio.  In flag signaling, the flag swung to the right is dot, to the left dash.

The most common combination of letters that most people know is SOS (distress signal for we need help). The ship Titanic used this distress call after it struck the iceberg that would later sink the great ship.

SOS = ... --- ...
