May Flowers

One of my favorite things to do in the spring time is growing plants from seeds. This year I am attempting to grow some Shasta Daisy flowers. This is a perennial, which means it will come back every year. In additional to the Shasta’s, We have a strip along the fence line that receives sun all day and is usually overgrown with grass. This year we cleared out the grass, edged, tilled up the soil with a hand tiller, and sowed in over 5,000 Zinnia seeds! After a few weeks the seeds have germinated and we have a ton of seedling coming up. The main ingredients for seeds to germinate and do well are good/healthy soil, and water. With the Zinnia seeds, we had to water both morning and evening to make sure the soil was moist enough for the seeds to germinate. After a couple of weeks I cut the watering back to be only once a day in the morning. Another fun plant we grow is sunflowers. Having a few giant mammoths in the corner of the yard brings some great color with their dark yellows.

Have you ever planted a seed and watched it grow? The Wolf adventure, Grow Something, has us doing just that for 30 days. Select any seed; flowers, vegetables, fruits, care for it for 30 days while taking a picture or drawing once a week of how it grows.
