Mossy Cave

Mossy Cave is a fun little day hike that will get the kids, and yourself, out of the car for half an hour and stretch your legs if traveling the scenic Highway 12 route. Located just outside of Tropic, UT. The Mossy Cave hike offers magnificent hoodoos, a waterfall (depending on the time of year), and a natural spring grotto.

There is no potable drinking water at this location along with no waste receptacles, so pack your trash out. But, there are vault toilets if needed making this a prime location for a pit stop for our kids.  Each time that we have visited this hike, the right fork to the waterfall has been closed due to washout. The left fork in the trail will take you up the hillside and into the grotto.  When inside the cave, take a look up and you will find multiple areas were water is dripping from the ceiling.  In the cooler winter months, the cave is usually full of icicles.

Total distance for this in-n'-out hike is .9 miles.
Descending: 300 feet )91 m)
